WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
What Makes St. Cloud State Special?
DEVELOPMENT
At St. Cloud State, we are about our people.
The women’s hockey staff is committed to personal player development on and off the ice. Our goal is to help the players go pro in the hockey and/or their career beyond.
We provide skill development sessions Monday-Thursday in season, and individual video sessions on top of the team practices, workouts, and video. With the introduction of DISC profiles for each player and staff member, we are better able to help them communicate and understand each other’s motivations.
And each of our players has a Whoop Band for them to monitor their strain, heart rate, sleep, and overall wellbeing.
In addition to daily snacks, our nutrition room has a blender and all the essentials for our players to make smoothies throughout the day.
TRAINING
Our off-ice staff help the players stay healthy and strong in both body and mind.
Our off-ice staff help the players stay healthy and strong in both body and mind. Housed in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, our state-of-the-art workout facility is exclusively home to men’s and women’s hockey.
The players have daily access to the turf track, conditioning equipment, weights, and a shooting/stickhandling area. Our strength and conditioning coach tailors workouts to the individual players’ needs (i.e. speed, explosiveness, upper or lower body strength).
Attached to the weight room is the athletic training room, which has a cold tub, an underwater treadmill, and recovery tools including cupping, needling, and HyperIce massagers, and Normatecs. Our athletic trainers schedule appointments with the massage therapist, chiropractor, sports psychology, and/or the in-house doctor.
In the locker room, the players have a drink station filled with water and electrolytes, and a sauna to help with recovery/relaxation.
COMPETITION
Our players are here to develop their craft and win games.
St. Cloud State women’s hockey has achieved a lot of firsts under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Idalski and 10-year SCSU associate coach Jinelle Siergiej.
The program is ready for the step within the WCHA: being a Frozen Four contender.
The culture created by the coaching staff starts with a competitor’s mindset. Playing in the WCHA means facing a top ranked team on weekly basis. Our players are dedicated both on and off the ice to the team by making themselves better each day.
By focusing on the habits, details, and structure of the systems, the players can compete and hold each other accountable each day. We treat and train our players like professionals so that they can achieve excellence in hockey.
